NO STREAKS

A self-care app without streaks

Streaks are very good at getting you to open an app. They are worst on the mornings when opening it is already the hard part.

Short answer

Still Morning has no streak, no virtual pet and no daily reward. It counts mornings you showed up, that number never goes down, and a rest day counts as one. If you have bounced off habit apps because breaking a streak made you quit altogether, that mechanic is the thing this app leaves out on purpose.

WHAT IS GOING ON

What a streak actually does

A streak works by loss aversion: the number becomes painful to lose, so you come back. That is genuinely effective at building a routine, and the best-known apps in this category use it — Finch, the most popular of them, pairs daily tasks with a virtual pet you look after. The cost lands on the bad week. When the streak breaks, what you lose is not the habit; it is the reason to come back. The app you downloaded to feel better turns into one more thing you are behind on.

FOUR CHOICES · NO COUNTER TO PROTECT

What replaces the streak

Each of these does a job the streak used to do, without the debt.

  1. Mornings shown up: a count that only rises. Stay away a month and it waits at the number you left it.
  2. Rest days count. One tap says today is a rest day, and it counts as showing up, because choosing rest is a decision rather than a failure.
  3. Blank, never red. Missed days are empty circles on the weather calendar. No colour, no badge, no debt.
  4. A comeback pair. After five or more days away the next pair is forced short and gentle, on the assumption that you had a reason.

Check yourself: After a week away, do you want to open it, or do you want to avoid it?

Do

  • Come back after a gap without starting over
  • Count a rest day as a day
  • Let a blank week stay blank
  • Read the weekly recap instead of a counter

Skip

  • Earning back a number you lost
  • Keeping something alive to prove you showed up
  • Daily rewards you stop noticing by week three
  • Red badges for the days you could not

What Still Morning would suggest

Body

Physiological Sigh ×5 · 2 min

Five slow sighs, the out-breath longer than the in. Short enough that coming back after a gap costs nothing.

Mind

Self-Compassion Break · 3 min

Three sentences about the time you took off, said the way you would say them to someone you liked.

Still Morning picks the pair from your check-in, your movement flags and the time you have. This is the shape of it, not a fixed rule.

Limit: Still Morning is a self-care and educational tool, not medical or mental health care. It does not diagnose anything. If low mornings are becoming most mornings, or you are thinking about harming yourself, contact a qualified professional or a crisis line — the app keeps its list of resources one tap away, outside the paywall.
